Pirith Potha (“the app”) is a Buddhist devotional audio app. This policy explains what the app collects, why, and what it does not collect. It applies to the Android and iOS apps published under the name Pirith Potha.
The short version
- You do not create an account and we never ask for your name, email address or phone number.
- Your favourites, playlists, listening history and downloads stay on your device. We cannot see them.
- The app uses Google services for crash reporting, anonymous usage statistics and advertising.
- We do not sell your data, and the app does not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
What the app collects
| Data | Why | Who processes it |
|---|---|---|
| Anonymous app ID | The app signs in anonymously so it can read the chant catalogue. The ID is a random string; it is not linked to you personally. | Firebase Authentication (Google) |
| Usage events | Which screens are opened and which chants are played, so we know what to improve. Aggregated, not tied to an identifiable person. | Google Analytics for Firebase |
| Crash reports | Diagnostics when the app fails: device model, OS version, and the error itself. | Firebase Crashlytics (Google) |
| Advertising identifier | To show ads and limit how often the same ad is repeated. | Google AdMob |
What stays only on your device
The following are stored in your phone’s local storage and are never uploaded to us or to anyone else. Deleting the app removes them permanently.
- Favourite chants
- Playlists you create, and the order of chants inside them
- Recently played history
- Downloaded audio files, for offline listening
- Your language preference (Sinhala or English)
Advertising
The app shows banner and occasional full-screen ads through Google AdMob. AdMob may use your device’s advertising identifier to select ads and cap how often they repeat. You can reset or limit that identifier at any time in your device settings — on Android under Settings › Privacy › Ads, and on iOS under Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking.
Google’s own policy explains how it handles this data: How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
Permissions the app asks for
- Notifications — only to show the playback controls on your lock screen and in the notification shade. We do not send marketing or promotional notifications. Declining simply means those controls will not appear.
- Internet access — to stream and download audio and to load the chant catalogue.
Children
The app is suitable for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Data retention and your rights
Because the app holds no account and no personal profile, there is no personal record for us to look up, export or delete. Analytics and crash data are held by Google under their standard retention periods. To remove everything the app has stored about your use, uninstall it; to reset advertising personalisation, use the device settings linked above.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted at this address with a new “last updated” date. Material changes will also be noted in the app’s store listing release notes.
